Job Seeking After Completing Studies in Sweden

Residence Permit After Completing Studies in Sweden

If you have completed a higher education programme in Sweden, you may be eligible for a residence permit that allows you to remain in the country to look for work or investigate the possibility of starting your own business. This opportunity is also open to students who completed part of their studies in Sweden under a residence permit issued by another EU country, provided they studied in Sweden for at least two semesters.

To be eligible, you must have a valid passport and submit your application before your current permit expires. You need to have completed a full programme of higher education (at least two semesters) with passing grades. You must also have sufficient financial means for your stay, amounting to at least SEK 10,584 per month (2025), and comprehensive health insurance if your total stay in Sweden is less than one year.

Applications must include passport copies, a degree certificate or an official transcript confirming completed studies, and documentation of financial means. Doctoral students should also include a certificate from their supervisor. If applying with family, you must include proof of relationship and financial support for your entire household.

This residence permit is valid for up to 12 months and cannot be extended. If your family applies with you, their permits will match yours in duration but will not exceed the validity of their passports. Adult family members and children turning 16 during the current year are permitted to work in Sweden.
