Job Seeking Permit to Seek Work In Sweden

Residence Permit to Seek Work or Start a Business in Sweden

The Swedish residence permit for job seekers and aspiring entrepreneurs is designed for non-EU/EEA citizens who have completed a second-cycle qualification and wish to explore career or business opportunities in Sweden. This permit allows you to stay in the country for up to nine months to look for employment or assess the viability of starting your own business.

To be eligible, you must have a valid passport and be residing outside Sweden at the time of application. Your educational background must include a 60-credit or 120-credit Master’s degree, a professional degree worth 60–330 credits, or a postgraduate/PhD-level qualification. Additionally, you need to prove financial self-sufficiency, SEK 13,000 per month for the intended stay—and hold comprehensive health insurance valid in Sweden.

Applications are submitted online and must include a copy of your degree certificate, transcript, proof of financial means, proof of health insurance, a passport copy, and a signed authorization form for the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR) to verify your academic credentials. All documents should be in English or Swedish with certified translations if needed.

During the process, you will designate a Swedish embassy or consulate to present your passport and, if required, attend an interview. Biometric data will also be collected for your residence permit card.

If you find employment or decide to start a business during your stay, you may apply from within Sweden for a work permit or a self-employment residence permit. You can begin working or running your business once your new application has been submitted.
